Liposuction and Body Contouring (Suction-Assisted Lipectomy) can improve body shape by removing exercise-resistant fat deposits with a tube and vacuum device. This procedure can be performed using the Tumescent technique, in which targeted fat cells are infused with saline containing solution with a local anesthetic before liposuction to reduce post-operative bruising and swelling. Common locations for liposuction include chin, neck, upper arms, breasts, abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, knees, calves, ankles. The duration of results is permanent with a sensible diet and exercise.

Liposuction and Body Contouring is usually an outpatient surgery but extensive procedures may require a short inpatient stay. The surgery can last anywhere from 1 to 2 hours or more encompassing preparations and procedure. Temporary bruising, swelling, numbness, soreness and burning sensation can be expected. If using the Tumescent technique, patients will incur temporary fluid drainage from incision sites.

Our patients are usually back to work in 1 to 2 weeks, but should avoid strenuous activity for at least 2 to 4 weeks. Full recovery from swelling and bruising can take 1 to 6 months or more. Using the Tumescent technique may decrease post-operative bruising and swelling. The final result may not be visible until several months have passed and the swelling subsides.
