LOOKING BACK AT 2009
The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery released the trends and demographic data for 2009 and we wanted to share some of their findings.
Almost 10 million cosmetic procedures were performed last year. The top five procedures were all nonsurgical. Botulinum Toxin Type A (such as Botox) was the most frequently preformed, with more than 2.5 million procedures. Then came Hyaluronic Acid (Juvéderm), laser hair removal, microdermabrasion, and chemical peel. The top surgical procedures were breast augmentation, liposuction, eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty (nose job), and abdominoplasty (tummy tuck).
Procedures on men made up 9% of total procedures. Men had more than 900,000 surgical and non-surgical procedures performed, which was a 9% increase from last year. So, while women still constitute the large majority of the cosmetic surgery market, it’s popularity is rapidly growing among men.
