Ear surgery (Otoplasty) is most often done on children between the ages of 4 and 14. The procedure will set prominent ears back closer to the head or reduce the size of large ears, and is occasionally covered by insurance. The results are usually permanent.

Ear surgery is usually an outpatient procedure encompassing 2 to 3 hours. Anesthesia for young children is usually general; Anesthesia for older children or adults is usually general or in some cases local with sedation may be recommended. Temporary throbbing, aching, swelling, redness and numbness can be expected.

Our patients are back to work or school in 5 to 7 days but should avoid strenuous activity and contact sports for 1 to 2 months.
