Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) is usually considered by men and women age 35 and over and can correct drooping upper eyelids and puffy bags below the eyes by removing excess fat, skin and muscle. The results last for several years and may even be permanent.

Eyelid Surgery is usually an outpatient surgery with preparations and procedure encompassing one to three hours. Anesthesia is often a local with sedation, or in some cases general anesthesia may be recommended. Temporary discomfort, tightness of the lids, swelling and bruising should be expected as well as temporary dryness, burning and itching of the eyes. Also, excessive tearing and sensitivity to light for the first few weeks.

Our patients are usually reading again in 2 to 3 days and back to work in 7 to 10 days. (Bruising and swelling will diminish in several weeks.) Contact lens wearers will have to wait two weeks or more and strenuous activity and alcohol should be avoided for about 3 weeks.
