Breast Enlargement (Augmentation Mammaplasty) is considered by women who wish to enhance the size and shape of their breasts. The procedure is done using implants which are positioned behind the breasts muscle with silicone or saline implants. The duration of results is variable because implants may require removal or replacement.
Breast Enlargement is an outpatient surgery with preparations and procedure encompassing approximately 1 to 2 hours. General anesthesia is administered during the procedure. Temporary soreness, swelling, change in nipple sensation, bruising and sensitivity to stimulation should be expected.
Our patients are usually back to work in 5 days, but need to avoid physical contact with the breasts for about a month. The scars will take several months to a year to completely fade.
Side Effects & Risks
Side Effects: Temporary soreness, swelling, change in nipple sensation, bruising. Breast sensitive to stimulation for a few weeks.
Risks: Lack of implant permanence – surgical removal or replacement of the implants may be required to treat problems including: deflation; the formation of scar tissue around the implant (capular contracture), which may cause the breast to feel tight or hard; bleeding or infection. Increase or decrease in sensitivity of nipples or breast skin, occasionally permanent. Mammagraphy requires an additional review.
