Fat transfers consist of obtaining fat from hips, thighs, or abdomen and transferring it to cheeks, lips, nasolabial folds or even to breasts for minor asymmetries. Fat may be harvested from any location where there is an excess.

Fat gains and loses volume if there is an increase or decrease in body fat. If fat survives it is permanent. Some cases may require secondary injections that are performed at different time periods after the initial surgery.
